REASONS WHY I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE TRINITY : A Singular Name Does Not Prove They Are Of One Being
By Bro. Nathan
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," (Mt. 28:19) ESV
"The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; Let my name be named upon them, And the name [שם] of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”" (Gen. 48:16) NKJV
Jesus gives the great commission to his apostles and he commanded them to preach the gospel to everyone and everywhere and go baptize the in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; and now we have this verse being used as a proof text to support something that is not even taught in scripture and begs the question, bakit ba singular ang "name" (όνομα - onoma)?
We have this in the case ng kung papaano ba giangamit ba ang names sa context ng Bible. First, ang "name" (όνομα onoma ; שם shêm) does not only mean na isa itong proper name but nagrerefer din ito sa authority if we take in light sa culture ng scriptures. ang singular na "name" sa Scriptures can be used in plural persons without them being numerically one! (as trinitarianism claims). examples ng "name" being used in the context ng authority ay e.g ang mga deeds done in the name of the Lord like serving in the name of YHWH (Dt. 18:22), speaking in the name of YHWH (Dt. 18:22), fighting in the name of YHWH (1 Sam. 17:45) and cursing in the name of YHWH (2 Kgs. 2:24). and as for examples naman ng "name" na ginamit as a singular but naiinvolve dito ay more than one person—is not new in the Bible. E.g Genesis 48:16 reads :
If it be so, numerically one ba si Abraham at Isaac? since it also uses a singular form ng Hebrew word for name yet it involved more than one person, Abraham and Isaac. it shows na dito, ang "name" ay ginagamit in a distributive sense and hindi ibig sabihin na singular name ay singular person. that's now how it always work sa Scriptures (cf. 1 Sam. 17:13; Isa. 55:13; Jer. 13:11 Ezek. 22:5; Rev. 3:2). And many other examples like in a collective sense ay sa 2 Samuel 7:9 which reads "name of great men" (KJV), at sa Proverbs 10:7 which reads "name of the wicked". Furthermore, since ang Baptismal regeneration is also in view, sa Acts ay na ang Apostles baptized "in the name of Jesus Christ" (Acts 2:38; 8:12-16; 10:48) na kung saan dito ay inaargue din the same ng mga Oneness (Modalist) Pentecostals na sa name lang daw ni Jesus magbaptize at hindi ng sa name ng Father, Son, and Holy Spirit/Ghost. in other places sa Scriptures ay tinanong ni Paul ang Corinthian Saints kung nabinyagan na ba sila "in the name of Paul" (1 Cor. 1:13) and of course not dahil walang authority si Paul na magligtas ninoman maliban si Jesus Christ — Jn. 14:7; Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13
Jesus Christ came in his Father's name, i.e authority (Jn. 5:43) and declares his Father's name (Jn. 17:1-26), and Christ authority came from no one else but from his Father himself (Mt. 28:18-20; Jn. 3:35). this shows not na sila ay numerically singular but they are united sa kanilang work. in conclusion is this verse sa great commission does not teach the Trinity.
