John 8:40 is Not Unitarian

John 8:40 will be one of the most cited passages by Unitarians para isupport ang kanilang mga views on the nature of God and Christ; where Christ said to the Jews that “but now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.” (Jn. 8:40, New Revised Standard Version). Ang main reason why Unitarians would use this (specially ang Iglesia ni Cristo or INC) is the wording where Jesus said that he is "a man" who is telling the truth. Others would jump to conclusions and eisegete the passage by saying "Jesus is a man and he says he's telling the truth that he is a man" na you can here from several articles by INC apologist that relies upon eisegesis at hindi sa isang meaningful na representation of the Christology of the text.

Firstly, ang passage na ito ay hindi mainly isang referent on the manners ng ontology ni Jesus Christ at ang kanyang nature but that Jesus replies on Jews na nagsasabing "si Abraham ang aming Ama" (v. 39) but yet does not follow what Abraham did and he said as like "kung Ama ninyo si Abraham, dapat ginagawa ninyo ang mga gawa ni Abraham. Kung kayo ay mga anak ni Abraham, bakit ninyo ako gustong patayin na isang taong nagsasabi ng katotohanan", na kung saan ay ginamit ni Jesus to show irony sa mga claims ng mga Jews as a reason to reject what Jesus says. Jesus as well applies this to God the Father and them where if they were God's children, they should have loved Jesus and accepted his message (vv. 41-47). This passage do not mainly refer to ontology, kung binabasa mo ito in context; as Unitarians specially ang Iglesia ni Cristo—constantly misread Scripture for their own Theology na may Low Christology (when John and other writings in the New Testament have a High Christology). Even though sasabihin mo na ito ay mainly patungkol sa ontology ni Jesus Christ, Jesus here is in his incarnate state where he emptied himself and lived as a mortal man as we are for the Atonement to be fulfilled (Jn. 1:14; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 2:7-9). Unitarians however fail to address ang High Christology of the Gospels and other New Testament writings and ang pre-existent glory ni Jesus Christ as Jehovah and Jesus as exalted by Heavenly Father above everyone and gave him the name above every name (Jn. 17:5-26; Phil. 2:5-11). The Pre-existence, Incarnation, and Exaltation of Jesus Christ must be always considered when it comes to his Deity. John 8:40 does not disprove that Jesus is Divine, and we see in the Bible that He is.
